We each have our own goals, time, and interests, which results in different paths to get where we want to be. I’m laying out one path meant for those who have little to no food storage, and may not have a lot of cooking experience. I recommend starting with Level 1, but of course it’s up to you!
Each level is broken down into bite-size steps so that you can do just one if that’s all you have time and energy for, or you can do them all at once if that fits your life better! I will make blog entries for each of these levels, they are linked from the level header if an entry is written.
Level 0 – What are you preparing for?
You probably came here with an idea of this, but let’s make sure you have an idea of what you want to be ready for to help keep you on track.
Level 1 – One week of food storage
Let’s walk through where, what, and how to start your food storage with a single week. Some people may be happy with a single week and can stop here! For others, this is just the start.
Level 2 – Basic skill check
Thinking about what you would actually eat for a week, may highlight gaps in your current knowledge and skills in order to have more variety or things you can confidently prepare in your food storage. Let’s fill in those gaps.
Level 3 – Water!
You’ll need water to stay alive, use in some foods, and keep things clean and safe to eat.
Level 4 – One month of food storage
In some ways, one month of storage may look like your single week, just a bigger amount. But now that you’re adding skills, is there anything you’d like to add for the full month?
Level 5 – Advanced skills to consider
You are on a roll! You have a full month of food ready, and you know how to use it. You’re loving this preparedness thing and want to do more of it.
